WTM looks at how to help resorts’ local communities

Benefits of responsible tourism to be debated at WTM
Ensuring the benefits of tourism trickle down to the local population of any destination will be a key topic of conversation at the World Travel Market this week.
The event’s responsible tourism program will focus on the issue during a number of sessions. These will include a panel debate on November 4 called “Increasing the local economic benefits of tourism”.
It will be the second debate of the day on the topic, following a discussion entitled “What is the role of government in managing tourism in destinations?” in which speakers will look at how local communities can maximise the benefits of tourism while minimising negative impacts.
Other topics being covered during the four days of debates and seminars at WTM 2015 include child protection, gender and tourism, snow-sports, cruises and food tourism.
