World’s most beautiful airports – in photos

Images of attractive design in airport terminals
Inspired by a new photography book, The Art of the Airport, the newspaper The Guardian has published a selection of images that show some of the most memorable beauty and design in the world’s airport terminals.
Marrakech Menara airport in Morocco, for example, developed in the early 2000s, has a curved, concrete roof and large triangular windows painted with Arabic designs creating a mix of tradition and modern.
“The terminal’s ceiling is a steel structure clad in aluminium and includes windows that allow for plenty of natural light,” the article says. “The windows also serve another purpose: instead of being made of glass, they are pyramids made of photovoltaic modules – and help to generate power.”
Other airport structures listed include Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport, which uses bamboo to create a sense of calm; Shenzhen Bao’an in China, whose Terminal Three is designed to look like a manta ray; Wellington in New Zealand, inspired by sea monsters; Lleida-Alguaire in Spain, whose terminal is covered with coloured metal plates, and others.
