Part of wider project for country’s highest mountain
In a further sign that the United Arab Emirates is developing its tourism beyond Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, an emirate in the northern part of known for its beaches on the Arabian Gulf, is planning to launch the world’s longest and highest zipline.
Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority has partnered with leading zipline operator Toro Verde to build the attraction on the country’s highest peak, Jebel Jais.
Scheduled to open in December, it will “catapult the northern emirate into the major leagues of global adventure tourism”, TTG MENA writes, and “cement Jebel Jais as the region’s leading active adventure tourism destination”.
The zipline is part of a wider project giving the mountain, which stands 1,934 metres above sea level, a new observation deck, due to open in October.
The tourism authority hopes it will attract outdoorsy travellers who want to enjoy the region’s beaches, desert and mountains. Ras Al Khaimah is aiming to lure one million visitors to the region by the end of the year.
