World leaders to give lecture in Prague on what makes a meeting destination successful

How can a destination achieve its potential in the meetings market, financing convention bureaus, or return on investment of public funding in the meeting industry – these are, among others, the major topics to be discussed with the world leaders in the field of meeting industry at the seminar titled “What makes Meeting Destination successful?” held in Prague on 9th February.

This unique event is organized by the Prague Convention Bureau in cooperation with the Czech Convention Bureau, under the auspices of the City of Prague Councillor for Culture, Preservation, Exhibitions, Tourism and Foreign relations Mr. Václav Novotný. Such type of event is taking place in Prague for the first time. The main partners of the event are Prague Airport and AV Media as a technology partner, media partners being C.O.T. media publishing house, business paper E15, and Metropol TV.
The seminar is intended mainly for representatives of political representation – The City of Prague and the Czech regions, regional convention bureaus, meeting industry professionals and students of tourism universities. „We are pleased to support the initiative of the Prague Convention Bureau to organize this seminar. The meeting industry, as one of the most significant sectors of tourism, is very important for economic development of a destination, not only in Prague, but throughout the Czech Republic,“ said General Manager of the Czech Convention Bureau Mr. Zdeněk Giormani.  
The invited speakers are Mr. Bruce Redor, Senior Associate, GainingEdge – international consultant company operating in the meeting industry – who will moderate the whole seminar; Mr. Steen Jakobsen, Director of the Copenhagen Convention Bureau, and Vice-President of ICCA (International Congress and Conference Association); Mrs. Ulrike von Arnold, Deputy Director of the Vienna Convention Bureau and Member of the Board of ICCA; Mr. Dirk Elzinga, Director of  the South African Convention Industry Consultants (Pty) Ltd – a company that helps governmental and other organizations in the development of convention centres,; and Mrs. Caroline Mackenzie, Director of Business Development in the U.K. & Benelux of the international Congrex Group PCO (professional conference organizer). Two lectures will be given also by the partners of Czech PCOs and members of the Prague Convention Bureau – Mr. Peter de Merlier from the company CZECH-IN and Mr. Ivo Miksa from Guarant International. „We are really happy that, in a relatively short time, managed to organize this unique event and to get such significant experts in the meeting industry in one place. Education in the field and information exchange with our foreign colleagues is a very important part of the development of any industry, and therefore we would like to focus more on this area. This seminar is the beginning which should help us open door to a deeper understanding of these issues from the side of the representatives of public institutions and to raise awareness about this significant field of tourism among both the entities active in tourism and the general public,“ stated Mrs. Lenka Žlebková, General Manager of the Prague Convention Bureau.
