Two trains collided head-on in Amsterdam on Saturday night

A 68-year-old woman has died as a result of the injuries she sustained when two trains collided head-on in Amsterdam. Around 50 other passengers were injured, 16 seriously, when the collision – described by rail officials as one of the worst train crashes in recent history in the Netherlands – occurred on Saturday night. As the two trains were being towed away, an investigation began into whether human or technical error was the cause. The black box recorders on both trains are being looked at and the tracks are being studied for damage.
The crash involved a double-decker intercity train and a commuter train.
