Harriet Green has “extensive experience of business transformation”
Harriet Green has been named to replace Sam Weihagen as chief executive of the tour operator giant Thomas Cook. She will join the board on July 30. Weihagen has served as an interim chief executive since Manny Fontenla-Novoa stepped down last year. Green is currently chief executive of Premier Farnell, an electronics distributor, as well as a non-executive director of the companies BAE Systems and Emerson Electric. According to Thomas Cook, she has “extensive experience of driving business transformation and change programs globally”, which should be just what the embattled tour operator needs.
Green has said that there “are very few role models for younger women from the business world.” The 50-year-old reportedly begins her day at 04:00 on the yoga mat for a 45-minute routine. She has been described in press reports as “personable and refreshingly plain speaking.” She is also no stranger to travelling, having lived and worked on four continents.
