Study: overall, guests like Europe’s hotels less in 2011 than before

A new survey reveals that guests are less satisfied with hotels in Europe than they once were. Satisfaction now stands at 735 on a 1,000-point scale, ten points below the results for 2010, according to the survey, compiled by the global marketing information services firm JD Power & Associates. With guest satisfaction rated in a range of areas, such as rooms, facilities, costs and fees, reservations, check-in/check-out, food and beverage, and hotel services, Europe’s hotels did worse than last year. But they did rate highly in Internet connection quality and the standard of guest-staff communication. The study gauged the opinions of 18,000 travellers between May and September.
In the upper upscale bracket, Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts, Marriott Hotels & Resorts and Sheraton Hotels & Resorts were best for guest satisfaction. In the upscale segment it was Hilton Garden Inn, Riu Hotels & Resorts and Dorint Hotels & Resorts. In midscale best were Ramada, Holiday Inn and Park Inn, while in economy it was Premier Inn, B&B Hotels and Travelodge.
