Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings posts big gains
Cruise Industry News offers a breakdown of the second financial quarter among the world’s major cruise lines – especially the performance of the ‘big three’.
There were big gains for Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruises regarding net income per passenger day. Norwegian posted a gain of over $10 on this statistic compared to the same period last year.
Norwegian and Carnival Corporation carried more passengers year-on-year, which in both cases can is mainly because of more short cruises in China and higher capacity across the board. But at Royal Caribbean, passenger cruise days dropped, probably due to the transfer of Legend of the Seas to Thomson.
Norwegian gained the highest rise in gross onboard revenue per passenger per day, at $4.76, with Royal Caribbean at $2.70 and Carnival at $1.31.
Overall, all three companies are expecting, in the words of Cruise Industry News, “a monster third quarter”.
