What Tui said about Thomas Cook…

Thomas Cook will be “a strong and stable player”

Speaking at the travel industry’s ITT Conference in Barbados, executives at both Tui and Thomas Cook have spoken reassuringly about Cook’s “recovery”. Johan Lundgren, Tui’s deputy chief executive, commented that he wanted Thomas Cook to become a strong, stable competitor again. He said that the problems at Thomas Cook had also dragged down Tui’s own share price and added that he was hopeful the transformation was now underway at his main competitor.
“They are making a transformation, which is on track. They are getting their act together,” he said.
Thomas Cook’s chief executive of mainstream, Ian Ailles, responded later: “I can tell Johan Lundgren that we are intending to become a strong and stable player for Tui. We will choose to compete in some areas and not in others.”
