Wyndham marks “monumental milestone” in Greater China
Wyndham Hotel Group celebrated what it called a “monumental new milestone” this week, becoming the first global hospitality company to reach the 1,000 hotel mark in Greater China.
The group says it is seeing increasing demand for its upscale brands in China. One of two new properties to open under the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand this week was the 227-room Wyndham Urumqi North. The other was the 389-room Wyndham Qingdao, located in Qingdao’s Chengyang economic zone, the second Wyndham to open in the city.
A key region of focus for more than a decade, the 1,000 landmark comes after years of accelerated growth and the strategic roll-out of six of the company’s 15 brands throughout more than 260 cities and 30 provinces.
A thousand hotels “highlights the increasing significance that China continues to play, not just for our organization but the industry as a whole,” said Geoff Ballotti, Wyndham Hotel Group’s president and CEO. “China continues to be on the rise […] with a booming middle class that is traveling more and more.”
Marking the achievement, the company brought together 1,500 partners, guests and associates for a run and climb at Mount Tai in East China’s Shandong Province, the most famous of the five sacred mountains in China. The evening hike, which took more than 4,000 steps, ensured that Wyndham and its team reached the summit in the early hours, just in time to welcome the first gleam of dawn.
Wyndham Hotel Group’s global portfolio consists of around 7,700 properties and over 668,500 rooms in 71 countries under brands such as Ramada, Days Inn, Dolce Hotels and Resorts, Travelodge, Wyndham Grand and Wyndham Garden.
