We want more tourists, say Copenhageners

Almost everybody is keen on having more visitors
The people of Copenhagen are the least irritated by tourism, a new survey of six European cities by the Netherlands-based Centre of Expertise Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality reveals.
Virtually everyone in the city – as many as 95% – is open to welcoming more tourists seeing the Little Mermaid and the other sights and sounds in the Danish capital.
The survey also included Berlin, Munich, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Lisbon. Compared to these, Copenhagen has the least overnights but tourism has increased by over 50% since 2009.
Almost 80% of Copenhageners said that, without reservations, there was space for more tourists in the city, while 16% argued there was space for more tourists only outside the peak season.
“Tourism is something that affects us collectively, so it’s important for us as a tourism organisation to understand how Copenhageners regard tourism,” said Mikkel Aarø-Hansen, head of destination marketing body Wonderful Copenhagen.
“Moreover, the cooperation in the survey allows us to learn from the experiences of other cities. This is knowledge we can work further with and in the new strategy for tourism in the capital, which we are currently composing.”
