100,000th passenger carried on Stockholm-Barcelona
The Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling is increasing its presence in the Nordic region. It carried its 100,000th passenger yesterday on its Stockholm-Barcelona route and plans to nearly double its frequencies this coming spring from Stockholm, Copenhagen, Aalborg, Gothenburg, Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Helsinki.
The Catalan airline’s strategic plan for the next two years aims to transform Barcelona El Prat Airport into a major hub for short and medium-haul flights by 2014. To reach this objective, it says it will link Barcelona to 100 destinations from summer 2013. It will add 28 new routes, including five destinations that have never been directly connected to Barcelona El Part before: Dresden, Rennes, Fez, Rhodes and Kos. The airline also wants to improve service to business travellers with its new Excellence flying class and by operating direct flights between Barcelona and both London Gatwick and Frankfurt.
Vueling is increasing its staff with 500 new employees, including pilots, air crews and support staff, and boosting its fleet at Barcelona from 34 to 43 planes.
