Virgin Holidays launch first single-parent long-haul holidays

Virgin Holidays and Elite Island Resorts Caribbean team up to launch a first for the long-haul holiday market, giving single parents a fairer deal…
There are nearly two million single-parent families in the UK, a number which has increased by 15 per cent over the last two decades, according to the Office for National Statistics. Many of these families face difficulties when trying to travel on long-distance holidays.
As plenty of single-parents will be all too aware, long-haul holiday packages are currently structured on the basis of two adults sharing one room. This arrangement doesn’t take into account child occupancy of the room, meaning that if a single parent travels with a child then the child will effectively pay an adult rate. The new pricing structure, which has been negotiated by Virgin Holidays, offers a reduction for the second occupant when they are a child.
“At Virgin Holidays we believe that everyone can take on the world, and are proud to do our bit in helping single parents give their families the opportunity to explore some of the most exciting destinations across the globe,” commented Joe Thompson, Managing Director of Virgin Holidays. “We have been a provider of long-haul holidays for 32 years and we are proud to continue our evolution, so we stay fresh and relevant to modern Britain.”
This new pricing structure will be available across ten Caribbean resorts, including all four resorts within the Elite Island Resorts Collection that offer family-friendly holidays. The single parent family room rates are available from 1 October 2017 and subject to availability.
“We are a firm family favourite with UK travellers, as our all-inclusive stays offer free of charge activities for children of all ages – including watersports and a kid’s club activity schedule,” said Paula Whitehead, European Managing Director of Elite Island Resorts.
“Our families also love our free of charge ‘Caribbean Firsts’ like Caribbean FloatFIT, Silent Cinema, Colour Me Calm Club, Sleep School and Caribbean Choir workshops; so it was important to us to launch the first single-parent offering in the Caribbean. We’re very proud to challenge the status quo and work hard to ensure that all customers can experience our award-winning resorts.”
