Line offers limited choice of recreated beer from 1840s
Viking Line is offering a limited choice of “recreated beer” from the 1840s.
Five bottles of beer from the period were found in a shipwreck off the Aaland archipelago in 2010, according to the Baltic cruise and ferry operator. Finland’s VTT Technical Research Centre studied the beer with the aim of recreating the original product.
The Stallhagen craft brewery on the islands will produce the beer – but only in 2,000 numbered bottles, and these will be offered by Viking Line.
The first bottle will be auctioned on the company’s Facebook page, in bidding that will run from April 1 to September 1. And a beer cruise will take place on September 20.
