Two vessels to sail to both Stockholm and Tallinn

As it celebrates the 20th anniversary of its Helsinki-Tallinn route this summer, the Finnish ferry operator Viking Line is adding two ships to the busy line to meet demand.

M/S Mariella and M/S Gabriella, each of which accommodates more than 2,000 passengers, will be put into service on the route. A new timetable will be in effect until September 1, when the normal timetable for the Viking XPRS returns.

M/S Gabriella and M/S Mariella will continue to serve Helsinki-Stockholm but will also pay a daytime visit to Tallinn. This means Viking Line will offer three daily return trips to Tallinn this summer instead of two.

Viking Line says this is a way of “boosting the number of much-appreciated car spaces” on Helsinki-Tallinn.

“Estonia is increasingly popular, especially among Finnish tourists, which is very understandable,” Christa Grönlund, Viking Line’s communications manager, says. “Tallinn also has more to offer than its traditional favourites, the Old Town and shopping. The city has a rich cultural life, fine restaurants, sights that are highly suitable for families with children and much more. […] Many travellers with cars also head east from Tallinn, for example to Rakvere or even further, all the way to the beautiful beach destination of Narva-Jõesuu.”
