VietJet order confirms it as major LCC

Vietnamese carrier orders 100 Boeing 737 Max 200s
Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJet Air has signed up for 100 Boeing 737 Max 200s, making it one of the biggest customers to commit to this high-density variant. The order confirms VietJet as one of Asia-Pacific’s fastest growing airlines.
Valued at $11.3 billion at list prices, the deal with Boeing was signed during a visit to Hanoi by US president Barack Obama. Delivered between 2019 and 2023, the planes will help boost the budget carrier’s fleet to more than 200 planes by 2023.
“Our investment in a fleet of B737 Max 200 will accommodate our strategy of the growing Vietjet’s coming international route network including long haul flights,” said Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, the carrier’s president and chief executive.
