Tour operators in the UK are expecting a last-minute surge in interest in winter trips.

While customers pick and choose less expensive off-season rates, tour operators in the UK are continuing to lower prices to stimulate demand and at the same time expand value-added extras. If a trip involves a good bargain, it’s likely to be sold – even if the holiday break is to colder or wetter destinations such as Ireland, a country previously ignored by tour operators in the winter months.

Value travel seems to be the key phrase, as operators such as Mayflower Tours and Sceptre Tours experience growth of more than 20% on last year for package tours taking place in November and December. Tours to the US, the Mediterranean and to Europe by rail are reported to be selling particularly well.
