Democrats and Republicans united in supporting new bill

A committee in the US Senate has passed a bill that allows the transportation secretary to stop US airlines from complying with the European Union’s controversial law that forces them to pay for carbon emissions on flights to and from Europe. The law will now be sent to the full Senate for a vote. Republican Senator John Thune advised the Senate to pass the bill immediately. Prominent Democrats and Republicans alike say they support the measure, known as the Thune-McCaskill bill.
“More than $3.1 billion will be wrapped up in new taxes between 2012 and 2020 that could otherwise be invested in creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in our country,” he said.
