Hotel collection introduces seven new members
Hotel collection Design Hotels says it attracts hoteliers with “a passion for genuine hospitality, cultural authenticity, thought-provoking design and architecture”. It has all this in one of its newest members, ION Luxury Adventure Hotel, Nesjavellir, where modern design meets Iceland’s incomparable natural landscape.
“From the volcanic marvels of the surrounding panorama to the urban sophistication of Reykjavik nearby, the unique landscape plays a pivotal role in the rich design of the hotel, which leans heavily on sustainable practices,” Design Hotels enthuses.
The hotel’s austere past as an inn for workers at the Nesjavellir Geothermal Power Plant served as a canvas for its future as a chic property. This is because the new elements of the structure were built using a prefabricated panel building system. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide natural light and panoramic views of the slopes of Mount Hengill.
“The 45 rooms offer a mellow mix of concrete chic and earthy ambiance combined with the warm accents of locally salvaged driftwood and lava,” Design Hotels says.
Other new additions to the Design Hotels canon include the Hotel Cort, Palma de Mallorca, Spain; the Chateau de la Resle, Burgundy, France; the Miura Hotel, Čeladna, Czech Republic; the Hotel Galery69, Masuria, Poland; the Majlis Resort, Lamu Archipelago, Kenya; and El Secreto, Ambergris Caye, Belize.
