WOW air to fly during summer to Kaunas, Iceland Express to Vilnius
In a surprise burst of activity, news2biz.com writes, two airlines based in Iceland have announced new seasonal routes to different airports in Lithuania – the first direct links between the two countries. WOW air, the new carrier beginning operations on June 1, has made Kaunas its only Baltic destination – one of 13 cities it will fly to initially. The flights will take place twice a month on Mondays, from June 11 to September 2.
Baldur Oddur Baldursson, WOW air CEO: “The Lithuania idea originated after talks with the 2,000-strong Lithuanian community in Iceland, the second biggest expat community after the Poles (we will also fly to Warsaw and Krakow). Most of them come from west of Kaunas, hence our choice of destination. We also consulted them about the most appropriate schedule and even arrival/departure times.”
Iceland Express, meanwhile, will fly between Reykjavik and Vilnius from June 26 to August 28, during which it plans to carry 3,000 passengers.
