Over 200 employees lose jobs following failed coup
Turkish Airlines has fired 211 employees at all levels and pay grades, in a crackdown on alleged supporters of US-based cleric Fetullah Gulen following the failed coup in Turkey. And more dismissals are to come.
Some of the sackings were due to inefficiency, the newspaper Sabah reports, but others were due to people’s alleged links to the Gulenist network.
Other big Turkish companies, such as telecoms giant Turk Telekom, are also firing hundreds of staff, with some managers summoned by prosecutors to testify in connection with the coup attempt.
So far, almost 50,000 state employees have been suspended and 3,165 people have been detained.
