Three-year loss totalled for industry in 2016-2018
The total losses for Turkey’s tourism industry in 2016-2018 may be as high as $30 billion unless problems are solved soon, a key insider warns.
The head of the Tourism Investors’ Association, Oya Narin, told the newspaper Hurriyet that the country’s tourism sector continues to bleed losses.
“Our three-year loss may hit $30bn if problems remain unsolved next year,” she said. “The sector has been facing serious financial hurdles. A financial support system specially designed for the sector would help a lot.”
She added that the sector’s 2016-17 loss would probably be $22 billion. A detailed plan to help the sector recover will soon be presented to the culture and tourism minister.
Arrivals rose by 43% in June year-on-year to 3.5 million, after rising 18% in April and 16% in May.
