KwikChex to launch voluntary code for travel websites

Following mounting criticism of ratings systems used by popular sites like TripAdvisor, an online monitoring company, KwikChex, says it will launch a voluntary code of practice for travel website review systems. The code has been approved by Tripadvisor’s former owner Expedia.
“It is a suggested code of conduct that has been drafted by us in the hope of providing more reliability for businesses and better protection for consumers,” KwikChex co-founder Chris Emmins said.
This comes after Tripadvisor’s decision to withdraw the anonymous review section on its site because it was making malicious postings easier. It has been replaced by a new star rating system and includes a principle of “fair challenge”, which allows the immediate removal of anonymous comments.
