Hotel now offering a “water butler”, another a “bath butler”
A trend for new kinds of service is winning luxury properties a social media buzz. These unique quirks help a hotel stand out in a crowded marketplace – and also remind guests that they have quality service.
The Merchant Hotel in Belfast, Northern Ireland, has started to offer guests a “water butler” service. Two butlers are on-staff as guides to the hotel’s expensive water menu, with water imported from places as varied as Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Fiji. The Water List comes with tasting notes and pairing suggestions.
The Wellesley in London has the UK’s biggest cigar humidor. It also has a “cigar sommelier” who helps guests select the best cigar to go with a certain whiskey or with dinner.
Some hotels with the Rosewood brand have “fragrance butlers” who guide guests to perfumes and colognes for the evening. The London in West Hollywood, meanwhile, has a “bath butler” who personally escorts you to the tub, selects water temperature and even brings you a choice of rubber duck.
