Trend of better amenities at airport gates

Passengers seeing food carts and hi-tech gadgets
Passengers waiting to board their planes at the gates are seeing improved airport amenities like snack carts, food delivery and mobile apps that smooth their way through busy areas.
Passengers at least expect comfortable seating, lots of power plugs and strong free Wi-Fi. But some frequent travellers say they would also like gate areas to have exercise equipment, complimentary bowls of breath mints and games like chess.
What airlines and airports are doing is starting to provide any services that make these spaces less stressful.
United Airlines’ gate upgrades include circular couches, technology bars and diffusers that emit the carrier’s signature scent. These can be experienced at O’Hare International Airport but will be rolled out elsewhere too.
Delta has an Early Valet program where employees offer to place passengers’ carry-on bags over their assigned seats before boarding.
Airport shop operator Paradies Lagardère Travel Retail has At Your Service food carts with snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, magazines and other items, while restaurateur OTG has transformed gates at 11 airports in North America into “experiences” with charging ports and iPads to surf the net or order a meal.
