As demand for travel grows, so does new-route potential
As demand in Sweden for international travel grows, the potential for new routes is being created, according to airport operator Swedavia.
The number of passengers at Swedavia’s airports rose 4% during the second quarter of 2013. During the period, a large number of new routes were also launched or announced. Swedavia’s net revenue increased during the period to SEK 1,348 million (€155.4 million) and operating profit improved to SEK 263 million.
So far this year, seven new intercontinental routes have been launched or announced by different airline customers, especially from Stockholm Arlanda.
“This, of course, is a positive trend, and there is still more potential to further enhance access, especially regarding Asia and the US,” Torborg Chetkovich, chief executive of Swedavia, said. “In addition to aggressive marketing efforts, efficiency improvements and increased capacity at our international hubs are also underway.”
