Record figures are being recorded for early summer
Inbound tourism appears to be booming in Sweden this summer. Record figures are being recorded for early summer, new statistics suggest.
In June, tourists spent almost 50,000 more nights in the Stockholm region compared to the same month last year, according to Statistics Sweden, a rise of around 4%.
The Malmö region registered almost 20,000 more guest nights during the same month, but figures dropped by 2,500 in the Gothenburg region.
“Tourism continues to grow [in Stockholm]. If we look at the first six months it’s up 6%, and that is twice the rate of the rest of the country,” Visit Stockholm CEO Tomas Andersson told public broadcaster SVT.
As for markets, Germany continues to be the most important for Stockholm, but Chinese tourists represent the biggest increase.
“The Chinese market is growing by an average of 40% compared to the same period last year, so that market is growing very fast,” Andersson said.
