Man, 22, stabbed to death and his friend wounded in Ayia Napa
Two tourists were stabbed in a pre-dawn attack in Ayia Napa, one of Cyprus’ most popular party resorts, after an argument with two locals about urinating in public, a witness told police. One of the victims died from his injuries.
George Low, 22, was stabbed in the neck, while his friend, Ben Barker, was stabbed in the back and remains in a serious condition. Both are from England.
A 48-year-old Greek Cypriot woman told police that her boyfriend had told her that he and a friend carried out the knife attack following the argument. She picked up her boyfriend from the resort after the stabbing and helped him change clothes.
Police are searching for the two alleged Turkish Cypriot attackers, named as Sali Ahmet, 42, and Mehmet Akpinar, 22, issuing pictures of the men. It is possible that a third man may have helped them flee across the border to the Turkish Cypriot republic in the north of the island.
