Bali is still the most popular arrival location
Indonesia attracted exactly 931,694 foreign tourists during the month of July, up more than 20% from the same month last year. Bali is still the most popular arrival location.
The increase was much faster than in June, when just 0.78% more tourists arrived in the country. The biggest source of visitors in July was China, up almost 60% year-on-year.
The government of Indonesia is trying to boost tourism to 20 million visitors a year by 2019 – more than double the 9.73 million seen in 2015 – and lessen the country’s dependence on exports of raw commodities. The number of visitors for 2016 so far, to the end of July, is up 9%.
Bali’s Denpasar airport saw 482,201 visitors in July, with Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta airport in second with 217,452 arrivals. Hotel occupancy for the country was 53.77% during the month, with Bali leading at 70.62%.
