Swedish team to update interior to suit modern needs
The interior of the forthcoming full-scale replica of the Titanic, commissioned by an Australian billionaire, will be created by a team of Swedes at the multinational company Höganäs.
As previously reported, the ship will be built in China and is scheduled to set sail from Southampton in the UK in 2016. The design of the replica is following the original appearance as much as possible, but the Swedish team will also update the interior to suit modern needs.
“The beds will be bigger, because people today are bigger than they were 100 years ago,” Fredrik Johansson of Tillberg Design told the newspaper Sydsvenskan.
“On the Titanic, 20 people shared a bathroom. […] But we’re preparing the cabins for toilets and showers by drawing in extra-large wardrobes for all the piping,” he added.
