Three new routes from 2018 “boost Skåne’s connectivity”
Three new routes to the Mediterranean coast are being launched from Malmö Airport, “greater Copenhagen’s second largest airport”, says airport operator Swedavia, in time for next summer.
SAS will open a route to Malaga in March, and between May and October Primera Air launches direct routes both to Palma and to Chania on the Greek island of Crete.
Primera Air can be described as a Danish-Latvian leisure airline with Icelandic owners, and is part of the Primera Travel Group of Nordic tour operators.
Malmö-Malaga will operate once a week from March, three times weekly from July and twice weekly from mid-August. The Primera routes will both be once a week.
Over the last two years, international traffic to and from Malmö has expanded mainly to destinations in Eastern Europe, but for summer 2018 the routes expand southwards.
Swedavia says it is investing in growth at Malmö Airport, including an increased focus on regional partnerships and a strong incentive programme for airlines aimed at expanding connectivity.
“Malmö Airport […] is further enhanced by these three new routes. The international interest for Skåne is rapidly increasing with business startups, international visitors and major international events, all increasing the need for new routes. Both SAS and Primera’s new direct routes contribute to an increased connectivity to Skåne”, said Pia Jönsson Rajgård, CEO at Tourism in Skåne.
