Customers delayed bookings due to terror attacks
Thomas Cook says its bookings are now recovering after customers delayed holiday plans following terror attacks in Paris and Istanbul, Egypt and Tunisia.
Tourists are ignoring previously popular winter-sun destinations, and the operator is instead offering more holidays in Spain, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the USA and Cuba.
Customer worries have dented bookings, the company says, with its inventory 29% sold, 2 percentage points lower than this time last year. But demand is now strong, it added.
Cook has cut its capacity in Turkey by 29% due to a fall in demand following the deaths of ten German tourists in a terror attack in Istanbul in January. Rival operator Tui had already reported a 40% drop in bookings to Turkey this summer.
