Press report says several potential buyers approached
Tour operator giant Thomas Cook is looking for buyers for its airline business, according to a report in UK newspaper the Sunday Times. The paper does not quote any sources, but says the company has approached several potential buyers in recent months.
The world’s oldest travel firm is still trying to save money, despite already slashing costs, shedding jobs and selling side businesses. Thomas Cook, which has a new chief executive, Peter Fankhauser after Harriet Green recently stepped down, has reportedly approached rival charter carriers as well as private equity investors but no talks are currently underway.
However, the newspaper quotes the company as saying that it’s pleased with the development of its airline operation: “We see it as an important part of our business and a support of our profitable growth strategy. Of course, we are always open for opportunities,” it says.
