Cook transfers planes, crews and slots to its partner
Lufthansa-owned Brussels Airlines and the Belgian unit of Thomas Cook Airlines are deepening their relationship, as Cook transfers two of its five planes, crews and flight slots to its partner.
This new initiative follows a reduction in customers and profits at Thomas Cook’s Belgian unit since last year’s attacks at Brussels airport and can be seen as part of Cook’s ongoing restructuring.
The tour operator has agreed to use Brussels Airlines for most of its business in Belgium and is thinking about launching new long-haul destinations together with the carrier.
It will transfer the two planes as well as flight slots and 160 pilots and cabin crew to Brussels Airlines, while the other three aircraft will be deployed through Thomas Cook Group. Brussels Airlines says the deal means it can fly to more leisure destinations.
