Since the very first edition that featured just 10 trailblazing members, the Design Hotels™ Book has continually set a benchmark for originality through its visual storytelling that is the antithesis of the ubiquitous picture-driven hotel publication.
Released at ITB Berlin, The Design Hotels™ Book 2017 puts the spotlight on 283 handpicked hotels across 207 destinations around the globe, as well as the most creative hoteliers of the world—known as the Originals—who have turned their unique hospitality concepts into reality. The hardcover coffee table book also presents the annual Influencers List, highlighting 10 innovative minds from the design and architecture scene who are pushing the boundaries of aesthetic creativity in hospitality today.
The new edition of The Design Hotels™ Book is priced at EUR 59.90, and is available to buy from www.designhotels.cc/shop/the-design-hotels-book-2017 or in Monocle Shops in London, Toronto, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo. A copy of the Design Hotels™ annual journal Directions, freshly re-imagined with a bold new editorial direction and tactile layout, will also accompany all purchases.
Featuring striking photography and behind-the-scenes exclusives, the Design Hotels™ Book 2017 celebrates today’s most inspiring hospitality concepts over 500-plus pages. Each member property is considered not as simply a hotel but as a tangible narrative realized by an Original with a passion for honest hospitality, local culture, and groundbreaking design and architecture. Depicted over four unique editorial layouts, every member hotel tells a tale of a stunning locale, singular design, or its role as a neighborhood gathering place for the creative set.
As in the past two Design Hotels™ books, this year’s edition celebrates standout designers and architects with the Influencers List 2017, honoring 10 visionaries who are beacons of individuality and expression today—from the inspired work of Anouska Hempel, who played an integral role in kicking off a hospitality movement defined by experience with the opening of Blakes Hotel in 1978, to Edward Tuttle, one of the first designers to bring the concepts of individual expression and personal experience to a beach resort. But established legends aside, the Influencers List also plays homage to the new stars in the design and architecture arena. Take Lázaro Rosa-Violán, whose luxuriously dramatic yet historically cogent style has made him one of the most in-demand designers in hospitality today.
“I was very, very aware that there was nothing like it and that’s why I created it.” Anouska Hempel.
The Influencers List 2017 features Dimorestudio, Sean MacPherson, Anouska Hempel, Albert Weinzierl, Tristan Auer, Christophe Pillet, Lázaro Rosa-Violán, Vincenzo de Cotiis, Annabell Kutucu & Michael Schickinger, and Edward Tuttle.
