Technical issues delay Thai Airways A380 route launch

Thai Airways announced Tuesday that the airline has been forced to delay the launch of A380 flights from London to Bangkok “due to important technical modifications”.

The airline will keep their Boeing 747 on the route for more than another year, as the A380 launch on the important route has been set “tentatively” for October 2014.

The launch of A380 on the London-Bangkok route, considered one of the key European routes for the airline, was originally set to be in December this year.

Thai Airways has not revealed the nature of the technical modifications needed on the aircraft, of which the airline has received four out of a total on six aircraft. However, it has been confirmed that the modifications include changes on the wing tips of the aircraft.

Thai Airways are, at present, flying A380 on routes between Bangkok and Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris, Frankfurt and Tokyo, whereas Sydney and London both were supposed to be launched as A380 routes this year.
