JCI World Congress to be Estonia’s biggest ever conference

The Estonian capital Tallinn has been chosen to host a major international conference in 2019, to take up practically all of the city’s hotel rooms.

Junior Chamber International has just selected Tallinn as the host destination for its 2019 World Congress, with more than 5,000 delegates expected – easily the biggest conference the Baltic nation of 1.3 million people has ever held.

It will have an enormous impact on the local meetings industry, especially given the relatively small size of the host city. Tallinn currently has just 7,300 hotel rooms.

Founded back in 1915, JCI is a global non-profit NGO for people 18 to 40 and has members in more than 120 countries, with regional or national branches in many of them.

The five-day gathering, set to take place during the last week of October or the first week of November, will include over 190 hours of training sessions, seminars, workshops and keynote speeches.

Tartu too
The hosting body JCI Estonia plans to involve other cities and regions in Estonia in the programme, including the university town of Tartu, the coastal resort of Pärnu and scenic rural Viljandi in the south.

“The Estonian Convention Bureau very much appreciates the enormous effort carried out by members of JCI Estonia to bring the congress to our country, in particular the creative thinking they put into finding suitable venues,” the ECB’s managing director Kadri Karu tells Conference & Meetings World.

This year’s JCI World Congress took place in Amsterdam; next year it will take place in Goa, India.
