Swedish watchdog slams Ryanair marketing

Ryanair “supports the right of our crew to take their clothes off to raise money”

Sweden’s advertising watchdog, Reklamombudsmannen, has responded to around 60 complaints about a controversial Ryaniar calendar featuring busty bikini-clad women by ruling that the advertising is “sexist”. The low-cost airline released the 2012 edition of what it calls its Cabin Crew Charity Calendar, illustrated with pictures of Ryanair stewardesses, in November. The watchdog called text such as “Our prices are red hot – and our staff” derogatory towards women.
But a Ryanair spokesperson told The Local that the regular calendar had “raised €500,000 for charity in just five years” and added that the airline would “continue to support the right of our crew to take their clothes off to raise money for those who need it most.”
