Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm experience rises
Business travellers are flocking to Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm, according to figures assembled by tourism organisation Visita, The Local writes.
Revenue per available room during the summer rose 13% in Malmö, 6% in Gothenburg and 4% in Stockholm on the same period last year. As a result, occupancy in Malmö increased to 80%, bringing it up to Stockholm and Gothenburg levels.
“It’s great and a sign that Malmö is prospering,” the city’s tourism chief Ann Nyström told the radio program Ekot. “And one reason is that Malmö has a large and wide range of meeting, event and hotel facilities.”
The trend is thanks largely to an increasing number of businesspeople travelling to and within the country – especially with the growing numbers of successful start-ups and global companies investigating Sweden. The Skåne region saw a 10.6% rise in international visitors in the first six months of 2016.
