Traces of explosive powder found on elderly lady’s bag
Traces of explosive powder found on a bag at the security check caused an evacuation of sections of Stockholm-Skavsta Airport on Sunday. The areas were reopened a few hours later, once the bag was moved to a safe area for examination by a bomb squad.
“The baggage and departure halls were evacuated, which has affected departing flights but not arrivals,” said police duty officer Roland Lindkvist. “The bag in question belongs to an elderly lady and she is cooperating with us. She says she doesn’t know how the powder got on her bag.”
Skavsta is Sweden’s fifth biggest airport, serving mainly low-cost carriers and seeing around 2.5 million passengers a year.
It is the second airport bomb scare in Sweden in a week, after a suspicious item was found in a bin at Stockholm Arlanda last Tuesday.
