Sweden shows strong upward air travel trend

Number of passengers at Swedavia airports up 8% in August

The number of passengers at airports operated by authority Swedavia was up 8% in August compared to the same month in 2013. A total of 3.2 million passengers travelled to or from one of the operator’s airports, an increase of just over 220,000.

The number of international passengers was 2.2 million, a rise of 9%. Domestically, 997,000 passengers flew during the period, an increase of 5%.

So far in 2014, the number of passengers at Swedavia’s airports is up 8% to 23.6 million. The number of international passengers has increased 9% to 15.2 million while the number of domestic passengers has risen 6% to 8.4 million. The number of landings in scheduled and charter operations during the year so far is up 4% to almost 134,000.

“International travel has increased for a number of years, in part because we have managed to encourage more airlines to invest in new non-stop routes,” says Torborg Chetkovich, chief executive of Swedavia. “At the same time, we see a very positive trend in domestic travel.”
