Swedavia gives inspiration to mobile users

Service for mobile phones collects photos of cities

 

 

Swedish airport authority Swedavia has launched a service for mobile phones that collects photos of a city from Instagram in real time and lets users create their own city guides based on the photos. The name of the service is The Local’s Guide.

The most common way to learn about a city before a trip is to ask friends or surf online, Swedavia explains, but this is not the way to really get to know a city. So instead of hearing yet again about the same Swedish restaurants in New York or reading what other tourists write on ratings websites, you can get genuine insight into city life both from locals who share their everyday lives and from visitors who give tips about their experiences. Then users can download their favourites as a PDF guide to avoid roaming charges.

“The airport is an inspiring place, and for most people this is where their trip starts,” Michael Persson Gripkow, Swedavia’s chief commercial and marketing officer, says. “Using the guide, it is easy for people to find out the latest about the place they are visiting, even as late as when they are sitting at the gate. The Local’s Guide has been developed as a mobile website so it is easy for people to create a guide and get inspiration for their trip no matter where they are.”

The guide is being launched with the help of interactive installations at selected gates at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Göteborg Landvetter Airport. It can be found at any of the Swedavia airports’ websites.
