Suicide bomb attack hits tourist attraction in Luxor

Three armed men try to storm barricade leading to temple
A terrorist attack has killed at least two people in the Egyptian city of Luxor, close to the ancient Karnak temple popular with tourists. It is understood that when confronted by police a suicide bomber blew himself up in the car park of the tourist site.
A second attacker was shot dead and a third severely wounded. Two shop owners and two policemen were injured, but no tourists were harmed.
Reports suggested that the three armed men had tried to storm a barricade leading to the temple. Two left their car and started a shootout with police, while the bomber tried to overcome the barricade.
The attack is the first to target the world-famous attractions in Luxor since 1997, when 58 people were killed by Islamic militants who opened fire at the city’s 3,400-year-old Hatshepsut Temple.
