Stansted to be affected by strikes during Queen’s Jubilee
A wave of strikes previously thought to have been averted are now taking place after talks between the ground-handling company Swissport and the union GMB broken down. The seven days of strike action have already started: from 5.30am on May 23 until 5.30am May 24, 5.30am on May 26 until 5.30am May 28, and 5.30am on June 2 until 5.30am on June 6, which covers nationwide celebrations planned for the Queen’s Jubilee weekend. Airlines flying to Stansted promise that flights will operate as normal.
The dispute between the two parties is over an anticipated reduction in incomes for baggage handlers. GMB negotiators have been in talks to reach an agreement to resolve the issue since an agreed suspension of strike action scheduled over Easter.
