Royal regalia found in two rubbish bags on Highway 555
Police in central Sweden have found the recently stolen sceptre and crown used in the 16th-century funeral of King Johan III in two rubbish bags on Highway 555 between Västerås and Hallstahammar, close to the E18 motorway. According to police, an anonymous caller told them where the regalia was hidden.
As reported, thieves targeting Västerås Cathedral stole the royal regalia by smashing a window and entering the historic building. The stolen items had been in the cathedral for hundreds of years.
Officials from Västerås Cathedral were said to be overjoyed that the burial regalia had been located. However, for now they remain in the hands of police, who are scouring the items for clues as to the identity of the thieves.
