Spain strikes still on the table

Strikes could ground traffic on 25 days this year
Talks between Spanish airport operator Aena and security staff unions have been “positive” but the issue of a damaging series of airport strikes is still on the table.
Unions are calling for 25 days of walkouts that would start on September 15. The 24-hour stoppages are scheduled to take place in Spanish airports on September 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29; October 1, 6, 11, 15, 27, 30 and 31; November 3 and 5; and December 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30.
The dispute is over pay and staffing numbers, with employees demanding pay rises of 8% and another 700 staff to be hired.
Aena and the air navigation body Enaire have agreed that with the increase in air traffic to and within Spain in recent years, there need to be rises in salaries and staff numbers. Further meetings are scheduled.
