Bus hits tunnel wall as Belgian group returns home from skiing trip
Barely three weeks after a coach returning to the UK from a school skiing trip in Italy crashed in France killing one person (an accident blamed on the long driving distance, as reported in TTG Nordic) another ski-trip bus has crashed, this time with far more tragic consequences.
The coach was carrying 52 people, mostly schoolchildren from Lommel and Heverlee in Flanders, when it collided with the wall of a tunnel in the Valais region of Switzerland, killing 28 people including 22 children and the two drivers. The group was returning from a winter sports holiday camp in Val d’Anniviers. Twenty-four more children were injured, some seriously. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
