Unions prepare months of airport strikes well in advance
All of Spain’s airports will be hit by six months of strikes from February 11, totalling 25 days of strikes in all. Unions representing many of the 9,000 employees of state-run airport operator AENA, say the strikes will take place on separate dates during the period February 11 to August 25.
The strike threat comes because the Spanish government plans to sell 49% of AENA to private investors. Such essential airport services as fire preparedness, for example, will be affected by the strike.
According to Spain’s state radio and TV broadcaster RTVE, the upcoming strikes will take place on:
February: 11th from 10:00 to 13:00
March: 10th from 15:00 to 24:00; 24-hour strikes on 19th and 22nd
April: 1st and 30th from 15:00 to 24:00; 24-hour strikes 2nd, 5th and 6th
May: 24-hour strikes on 14th and 17th (only Madrid)
June: 3rd from 15:00 to 24:00; 24-hour strikes on 4th 7th and 30th
July: 24-hour strikes on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 15th and 31st
August: 24-hour strikes on days 1st, 2nd, 14th, 30th and 31st
