SIA considers how to compete against Gulf carriers at CPH
Singapore Airlines is considering boosting its presence in Copenhagen to daily flights with a brand new Airbus A350 aircraft, to more effectively compete with the build-up of Gulf carriers at CPH.
SIA currently operates five flights a week, and a definite decision will be made on whether to go daily within the next two months.
Such a move should be coordinated with SAS, as SAS and SIA cooperate on a comprehensive joint venture that includes Singapore Airlines flight codes on a number of Scandinavian flights and a sharing of resources on Singapore Airlines’ Copenhagen-Singapore route.
Qatar Airways says it will soon go from 11 to 14 weekly flights to Copenhagen. Emirates has revealed that from December it will use its A380 aircraft daily on its route between Copenhagen and Dubai. The new plane can accommodate 615 passengers.
“Everyone can see that there is an arms race going on, and we have our own strategy in place,” said Tim Lee, who heads Singapore Airlines in Scandinavia. “We aim to offer daily flights between Copenhagen and Singapore. Our strength is to provide the most lucrative customer groups the best possible service between Scandinavia and Southeast Asia.”
