Flames erupt from SIA Boeing aircraft on landing
All passengers are safe after a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to Milan caught fire early on Monday morning. Flames erupted from one of the engines as the plane landed after returning to Singapore’s Changi airport, following an engine oil warning.
The right engine caught fire as the Boeing 777-300ER touched down at 06:50 local time. Emergency services immediately put out the flames. On board were 222 passengers and 19 crew.
“Passengers disembarked through stairs and were transported to the terminal building by bus,” a SIA statement said. “Passengers will be transferred to another aircraft which is expected to depart for Milan later today.”
SIA flight SQ368 departed at 02:05, but two hours into the flight the pilot said there was an engine problem and the aircraft would return to Singapore.
